Where to Meet a Mate if You're Over 48Nobody wants to put an age tag on places to meet eligible singles but there is a significant difference between where a person can meet someone in their late forties vs. their early twenties. The best place used to be a bar or club, but you may feel a little out of place grooving to the tunes while a bunch of Millennials fill the dance floor hip-hopping to the beat. Even though things may have changed now that you're a little older, there are still plenty of ways to meet someone. With the exception of online dating, the first thing to do is step outside of your home and start enjoying the things you like to do. Love has an easier way of finding you when you're doing what you love.
Own it Online
The most popular trend is online dating. It's one of the best ways to narrow down your search to a list of prospective partners close to your age. There is a variety of sites to choose from and you can meet people from all over the world, so you don't need to limit yourself to geography. You have the luxury of including the criteria that you're looking for in a partner and you can search for people with the same goals and interests. It takes a lot of the guesswork out of finding that special someone.
Embrace Your Passion
Take a class or join a group that represents the type of activities that you enjoy or have always wanted to learn. If you're interested in salsa dancing, golf or tennis, enroll in lessons in your local area. If you love painting, writing or wine, now is the time to explore your passions further. Embracing the hobbies or activities that you like will allow you to grow individually and meet like-minded people. Even if you don't find your lifetime partner, other people in the group may have friends who are looking for someone just like you.
Volunteer Your Time
Volunteering your time not only helps those benefiting from the organization; it gives you a sense of fulfillment. Whether it is a cause that helps children, the homeless, animals, AIDS pevention or your religious affiliation, it's a great way to give back to others. Find something that you really care about and perhaps the love you pour into helping others will come right back to you.
Explore the World
Traveling can be fun when you're single. You can make your own schedule and visit the places you most want to see. Austin, Denver, Boston and Washington, DC ranked as the top locations for singles. You never know who you'll meet on the plane, in the hotel lobby or while you're struggling to find the White House. Cruises and all-inclusive resorts are also a great place to go without feeling alone. If you don't feel comfortable traveling by yourself, bring another single friend along.
The most important rule to finding a mate is to lead a full life. Engaging in life when you're at your happiest will attract people faster than focusing on meeting someone as a goal. Instead of looking, start living. Do what you like to do, and love can follow naturally.
