How to Connect in Continuing Education Class (baby boomers)
When we think of "back to school," we immediately think of children or we reminisce about the times when we were young. For baby boomers, continuing education is making a comeback. It's a great way to stay marketable and meet others after years of working and raising children. If you are widowed, divorced, or just looking to connect, enrolling in a class could be your best advantage. According to the American Association of Retired People, there are more than 25 million single baby boomers and 63% of them are actively dating.
Following are a list of classes that will get your mojo going.
Retirement Seminars:
Talk about the perfect demographic. You'll learn some valuable tips and you can share your information with the good-looking gal or guy sitting next to you. You may end up combining funds when its all over.
Home Improvement:
If you're living on your own after years in coupledom, this could be a great class for you. You never know who you'll meet while learning about bathroom renovations. If you meet the right person, it could lead to building a new place together.
Ballroom Dancing:
Whether your're dancing to the salsa or stepping to the Cha-cha-cha, finding a partner in class is a wonderful part of it all.
Cooking:
Even after 30 years of home-cooked meals, there's always room for a new recipe. If you're a woman, you may be looking for a way to spice things up in the kitchen. If you're a single man, it could be your first time. Watch out. This class could be hot.
Wine Tastings:
Sniff and swirl your way to meeting someone. Wines attract a sensual crowd of both the male and female sex.
Language:
There are many reasons to learn another language. Here are five good ones: "Ti amo," "Je t'aime," "Ich liebe dich," "Te adoro" and "I love you."
Gaming:
It may sound odd to put gambling on the list. But, if you're a woman, you'll find a lot of interaction and men. Just practice the art of being discreet when you're dealt good cards (e.g., full house, four-of-a-kind). This is one occasion where you don't want to give away your hand.
Lastly, if you are serious about your studies but want the opportunity to meet someone, look at your local colleges for specialized programs to meet your needs. Some markets offer degree programs for baby boomers who are going back to school.
